benjamin damann is a composer, percussionist, music technologist, & educator residing in denton, texas. his works, performed and recorded throughout the united states & europe at such events as seamus, nycemf, & emm, are inspired by probability, indeterminacy, improvisation, & the timbral manipulation of acoustic instruments through physical preparation & electro-acoustic augmentation.

his recent works have focused on idiomatic harmonic gestures of jazz & pop music as applied to post-tonal harmony, the maximization of contemporary techniques & timbral possibilities, & the interpolation between distantly related pitch-class sets. his research interests include the complex applications of both rhythm and meter.

as a performer, he enjoys realizing experimental works for solo snare drum & multi-percussion as well as programming software interfaces to aid in the performance of such works. he has commissioned & premiered fourteen works for his snippets project & is a member of the duo, thenlike?now, which specializes in the performance of contemporary electro-acoustic repertoire.

benjamin holds a bm in percussion performance with a concentration in music composition from eastern illinois university, where he studied with brad decker & jamie ryan, an mm in music composition from bowling green state university, where he studied with elainie lillios, mikel kuehn, & michael laurello, & is currently pursuing his phd in music composition with a specialization in computer music media & a related field of percussion performance at the university of north texas, where he studies with sungji hong, jose aponte, jon nelson, marco buongiorno nardelli, & andrew may.
